I don't really actively miss Oberlin, not most of the time. But sometimes I see a picture of someone standing in the snow, and it hurts, I miss it so much

Interrupting months of silence to bring you this VITALLY important piece of news:

So, I'm going back to the US tomorrow. I just finished packing. I have two large suitcases and a backpacking bag as a carryon. One of my checked bags is borderline possibly over the weight limit, one is just under, and the carryon is fine. Now, guess which weighs more: me or the bags put together.

i'm back
(back, as in london. not the US. not for another 6 monthes, that)

it's really amazing to wear clothes i haven't worn recently. 5 shirts x 30 days = emily is really tired of those clothes. i'm staying at matt's house for the night. (matt is kristen's boyfriend.) i get to sleep IN A ROOM BY MYSELF. the last time i did that was july 31st. though, as kristen pointed out last night, at this point, she doesn't really count as another person. (it's kind of true, after three weeks of hostels, getting a room just for the two of us felt just like a private room)

i don't have the energy or inclination to write about traveling right now. maybe later.

it's really weird to read about being going back to oberlin. all you current-obies are there now, i think. that's weird. really weird. and i'm in london and i have to find a place to live (hopefully within the week) and a job (as soon as i can).

i think i'm going to miss oberlin kind of a lot.

so i'm going to europe tomorrow. i will be traveling for a month, then in london, working, for about six months.

the plan is:

amsterdam
freiburg, germany (my cousin lives there)
munich, germany
salzberg, austria
vienna, austria
split, croatia
ljubljana, slovenia
venice, italy

if you've been any of those places, feel free to give suggestions of places to go and things to do. we already have most of our hostels, however.

then, london! and getting a job & apartment & all that

i am super excited.

also, i will have sporadic internet while i'm traveling. since i'll have to pay, i may not look at lj at all. i wasn't planning to send any group emails, but like 5 people have requested that i do, so i'm going to. i probably won't send many. comment or email me if you want to opt in or out. i promise i will not be offended if you opt out, i know lots of people never read group emails. (if you don't express a preference, i'll guess.)

i plan to respond to individual emails while i'm traveling, but we'll see how that goes.

i will have internet in london, i'm sure. i will also have a phone, and i will post that number eventually.

Minnesota (silos exist! part of it is really pretty. part of it is really flat. there were little farmhouses and silos, and it looked just like toy farms, or like the place where the x-files movie is. fun to see. i seriously didn't know that kind of farm existed. and i saw the mississippi river. and we stayed with brian, who seriously lives in the middle of nowhere, on a dirt road. kind of awesome.)

Idaho (no real impressions of the state, it was dark when we got there, we slept, left early in the morning. i lost my voice sometime in Idaho. like, totally lost it. I can kind of whisper and kind of squeak, but not very well. brad laughed at me a lot. probably because it's funny. but not being able to sing along is kind of sad.)

Nevada (boring. boring boring boring casinos desert boring boring are we home yet?)

(i borrowed someone's hula hoop during the circus, and had no trouble. even though the guy said it was light. which it was, but not nearly as light as ms. saturn's. excuses, I know)

(also, i love the circus. i think next spring if/when I visit, i will try and schedule it for the circus weekend.)

I got honked at FOUR TIMES today.

and yes, I was wearing a short(ish) skirt earlier today, and it would have been less confusing if I was honked at while wearing that, because some people seem to have a short skirt-honk reflex. However, all four honks happened while I was out for my run/walk - while wearing long pants and a tshirt. I don't get it. Also, two of them may have been the same car, but I'm notoriously bad at telling cars apart, so possibly not.

in other non-related animal non-news, liam got stuck in the attic yesterday. i kept hearing meows from my closet, then i'd go look, but no liam! then i thought to look up, and sure enough, he was stuck in the attic/crawlspace, and had to get rescued.

whoa . . . i was just googlestalking myself (because i am just that awesome) and i found a picture of me online. randomness. (bonus points if you can find it too! it's kind of not that flattering, however).

i have a feeling this would be less interesting if it was not 5am



i think i'm going to go googlestalk everyone i know.

i can't sleep (it's 5:30am. i'm not tired. woke up at 9am this morning. yesterday morning? when you stay up all night, the divisions between days get kind of fuzzy)

i haven't finished picking classes

i now have 6 piercings

my wrist is "probably" not broken - i have a removable splint. apparently hairline fractures of this particular bone don't always show up on the xray. hopefully, it will be better in two weeks. if it's not, i'll get a bone scan. it was feeling better for a while but now it kind of hurts again. i hope it's not broken.

as soon as it gets light, i'm going to either walk to cvs to get brown dye, or dig through my closet to find more purple. i don't know if i want to fade into the crowd or rock out with the purple and the piercings. we'll see. maybe i'll let the amount of dye i have left decide for me.



tomorrow is the first day of my last semester at oberlin.
